Music is an important part of our daily Bible Study and quiet time with Jesus Christ and can do much to enhance our praise and worship time. As we all go about our busy lives, we sometimes forget to spend time with the creator and praise him just for who he is.

 

Yes, even I am guilty at times of complaining and asking for his grace in the bad times, yet forgetting to praise Him in the good times. My first pastor here in Tennessee, Dr. Phil Hoskins taught me more about praising God in the valley more than he will ever know. How much time do you spend with God each day? Did you answer only on Sunday, a quick prayer in the morning and, or at bedtime, only when I need something? Do you ever feel like all you do is pray, " Hey Lord it's me, Jimmy. gimme, gimme, gimme?" I know I do and I have to check myself and ask forgiveness for being so selfish.

Just as any father, Jesus wants us to ask for his grace in the bad times and give us what is good, but He also wants a relationship with us, not just to be taken down off the shelf and dusted off like a plastic Jesus riding on the dashboard of our car and only when we need him.

 

A minister preached a sermon on the topic of the Day of Judgment. The congregation, struck by the devastating truths of Scripture, was greatly alarmed, but the preacher told them there was something even more alarming; in two hours, he said, they would likely be little affected with these things, almost as if they had never heard them at all. Oft times sad but true.

 

It is one thing to hear God’s Word, but if there is no action that follows – no application to how you live – nothing comes of it. You must receive His words with meekness, delight in them, and bow your will to the authority of them. Be determined to pursue wisdom. Commentator Matthew Henry says, “The heart is then applied to the instruction when the instruction is applied to the heart.” Only when you take the Bible and believe it will it make an impact!

 

This year, dedicate yourself to the study and memorization of His Word. Let there be more than a trace of His instruction upon your mind. Then let your life reflect the divine wisdom that God gives. Intercede for America’s citizens and leaders who have yet to believe that the Word of the Lord gives life – not just now, but for eternity.
